The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded Big Stone Gap a $700,000 grant. The funding will support infrastructure upgrades at Big Cherry Lake. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Big Cherry Lake reservoir reflects the true beauty and nature of Southwest Virginia.

“This ARC grant for $700,000 helps Big Stone Gap upgrade Big Cherry Lake’s infrastructure and improve access to the Lake for residents and tourists alike.”

Big Cherry Lake is also a recipient of federal dollars thanks to Griffith's Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) program. This year, Big Stone Gap received $2 million in AMLER funds to expand recreational opportunities at the reservoir.

Congressman Griffith attended the AMLER Check Presentation at Big Cherry Lake on September 4.
