The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded Southwest Virginia Community College a $200,000 subgrant. The funding will support the development of cybersecurity education and training programs at the institution. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“As technology hubs grow in the United States, the cybersecurity field is playing an increasingly important role.
“This ARC grant for $200,000 helps Southwest Virginia Community College prepare students and teachers for cybersecurity education and training programs.”
The ARC is providing a $10 million grant to the American Association of Community Colleges for the Cyber ACCESS (Appalachian Community Colleges Eco-System Sustainability) project. MECC is a subrecipient of these funds.
The Cyber ACCESS program aims to transform the regional economy by directly increasing the number of educated and trained cybersecurity professionals.
