The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded Mountain Empire Community College (MECC) a $200,000 subgrant to develop cybersecurity education and training programs. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) commented on the funding:

“As technology hubs grow in the United States, the cybersecurity field is playing an increasingly important role.

“This ARC grant for $200,000 helps MECC support efforts in Appalachia to fill existing IT/cyber sector employment gaps and cultivate talent for the cybersecurity industry."

The grant is part of a larger $10 million ARC award to the American Association of Community Colleges for the Cyber ACCESS (Appalachian Community Colleges Eco-System Sustainability) project. MECC is one of the subrecipients of these funds.

The Cyber ACCESS program aims to transform the regional economy by directly increasing the number of educated and trained cybersecurity professionals.
