Wise County schools welcomed 455 8th-grade students in 2023-24 school year

There were 455 8th-grade students enrolled in Wise County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 8.3% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

The school that enrolled the largest number of 8th-grade students in the county was Union Middle School.

Within Wise County schools, the largest number of students were found in 1st-grade, while 12th-grade had the least students.

Statewide, Wise County ranked 41st in enrollment numbers. It was also ranked 41st the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
