The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has allocated a grant of $1,319,443 to the LENOWISCO Planning District Commission. This financial support is aimed at enhancing broadband networks in Central Appalachia. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) expressed his views on the development, stating:
“This ARC grant for more than $1.3 million helps LENOWISCO Planning District Commission potentially develop data centers in Central Appalachia and improve access to broadband for local communities.”
This initiative is part of ARC’s Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative. The program focuses on channeling federal resources into economic diversification projects within Appalachian regions that have experienced job losses due to declines in coal mining, coal power plant operations, and related supply chain industries.
The project is named the Central Appalachia Broadband Transport Infrastructure Improvements Project.
