The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has granted the City of Bristol $70,000 to study a potential connector trail linking downtown Bristol with the Mendota Trail. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith announced the grant and commented on its significance.

“This ARC grant for $70,000 helps the City of Bristol acquire a consultant group to assess the feasibility of a connector trail between State Street and the Bristol trailhead, thereby potentially boosting local tourism and supporting small businesses in the area,” stated Congressman Griffith.

The Mendota Trail is a 12.5-mile hiking and biking path that extends from Bristol to Mendota in Washington County, Virginia. In 2023, it attracted over 38,000 visitors, serving as an important regional outdoor recreation destination.
