Riverview Elementary/Middle School had the highest enrollment among Buchanan County schools, welcoming 729 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed at the time, 50.8% of them were female, and 49.2% were male.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 96.6% of Riverview Elementary/Middle School's total enrollment.

Among the eight schools in Buchanan County, Grundy High School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 348 students, while Hurley Elementary/Middle School welcomed 322 students to be ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Riverview Elementary/Middle School is part of Buchanan County Public Schools District, which roughly covers schools within Buchanan County, with its main office in Grundy.

In the previous school year, Riverview Elementary/Middle School also had the highest number of students among Buchanan County schools.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
