Marion Senior High School had the highest enrollment among Smyth County schools, welcoming 597 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed at the time, 53.8% of them were male, and 46.1% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 93% of Marion Senior High School's total enrollment.

Among the 13 schools in Smyth County, Chilhowie Elementary School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 544 students, while Chilhowie High School welcomed 401 students to be ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Marion Senior High School is part of Smyth County Public Schools District, which roughly covers schools within Smyth County, with its main office in Marion.

In the previous school year, Marion Senior High School also had the highest number of students among Smyth County schools.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
