Longwood University Athletics issued the following announcement on July 16
Local runners will have the opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of Longwood's cross country team on August 7, as the Lancer men's and women's cross country teams will host the first annual Lancer Summer Open 5K.
Taking place along the scenic, rolling hills of the Longwood Cross Country Course on Johnston Drive, the event is open to the public and offers participants a turn at navigating the turns and climbs of the Lancers' home trail on the site of the former Longwood Golf Course.
Registration is $30 per person prior to August 6 and $35 on the day of the race. A "virtual mile" walk or run option is also available for $20 with an event t-shirt or $10 without. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Longwood cross country program.
To register for the race, visit the Lancer Summer Open 5K homepage or contact Longwood cross country head coach Brooke Craig at craigab@longwood.edu.
