U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) has revealed that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration will be granting $500,000 to the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. This allocation comes as part of the Federal Railroad Administration’s fiscal year 2022 Corridor Identification and Development initiative.
The funds will be utilized to facilitate the "development of a scope, schedule, and cost estimate for preparing, completing, or documenting related service development plans" for a new commonwealth corridor. This corridor aims to extend rail service from east to west, encompassing the New River Valley.
Congressman Griffith expressed his enthusiasm for this grant, stating, "This $500,000 grant by the Federal Railroad Administration is great news. This new railroad corridor to connect cities all throughout Virginia will provide more transportation options for those living and traveling in the commonwealth."
The development of this rail corridor promises to enhance transportation accessibility for residents and tourists alike in Virginia.
