Russell County and Towns of Abingdon and Glade Spring Receive $2 Million in Community Development Block Grants

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (VDHCD) has announced that Russell County, the Town of Abingdon, and the Town of Glade Spring have been awarded over $2,000,000 in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). These grants, funded by the federal government and administered by VDHCD, will be used to support various projects in the respective communities.

Russell County will receive $514,500 for the Tiller Trailer Park Waterline Extension Project. This project aims to improve water and utility infrastructure in the county, providing essential services to residents. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) expressed his support for this investment, stating, "These federally-funded investments in our communities allocate money to water and utility infrastructure improvements in Russell County."

The Town of Abingdon has been granted $945,259 for the Appalachian Highlands Community Dental Center Project. This funding will enable the town to enhance access to dental care for its residents. Congressman Griffith acknowledged the significance of this allocation, highlighting the importance of equipped access to dental care for the community.

In addition, the Town of Glade Spring will receive $702,584 for the Glade Spring Housing Rehab Project. This project aims to rehabilitate affordable housing in the town, ensuring that residents have access to safe and affordable homes. Congressman Griffith emphasized the value of this investment, stating, "The Town of Glade Spring rehabilitates affordable housing. These investments are a reminder that continued investment in our rural communities is necessary."

These Community Development Block Grants demonstrate the commitment of the federal government and the VDHCD to support the development and improvement of rural communities.
