The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, a part of the National Institutes of Health, has awarded $288,986 to Biotherapeutics, Inc., based in Blacksburg, Virginia. The funding is intended for lung disease research related to asthma. According to the American Lung Association, over twenty-five million Americans live with asthma, with one to two million suffering from severe cases. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) commented on the grant:

"Our medical community continues to look for innovative treatments to address asthma, a condition that affects millions of Americans.

"This grant for nearly $300,000 helps Biotherapeutics develop more treatments for people who struggle with asthma."
