Cost of college went up for all students at Southwest Virginia Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.4 percent for 2018-19 at Southwest Virginia Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Virginia residents paid $4,703 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $112 more than the $4,591 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 126 percent more than residents this year, or $10,631. Their price tag grew 1.1 percent from $10,519 in 2017-18.

About 93 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Virginia residents. And about 6 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 93 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 312 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.6 million.

Including all undergraduates (2,373), 1,412 students used grants or scholarships totaling $6.4 million.
