Rams win fourth straight 30-7 at Point

Bluefield College Athletics issued the following announcement on Nov. 6

Bluefield University pushed its football winning streak to four with a 30-7 win Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division win over Point University, Saturday night. With the victory the Rams evened their season record at 5-5 and moved to 3-2 in the Appalachian Division.

BU rolled to a 23-0 lVALLEY, Ala. –ead at halftime. The Rams got on the board in the first quarter with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Nathan Herstich to Thomas Lee with 3:10 to play in the first. Joey Dales booted the PAT to make it 7-0. Defense produced Bluefield's next score with a safety on the final play of the quarter to make it 9-0 and that is where it stood at the end of the first quarter.

The Rams scored two second quarter touchdowns, the first a one-yard run by Lebron Fields with 3:29 to play before intermission, and the second a five-yard pass from Herstich to Jaquan Ebron with 1:10 showing on the scoreboard. Joey Dales was good with both extra points.

The only score in the third period was a five-yard run by Payton Allen. The PAT made it 23-7.

KeDarrius Phinazee intercepted a Point pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown with 6:58 remaining in the game. Joey Dales fourth extra point of the night made it 30-7 in favor of the Rams.

The seven points allowed by the defense was the fewest allowed this season by the Rams. DaMarcus Wimbush led the defense with 14 tackles, two tackles-for-loss. Sam Kirtley had 13 stops with one tackle-for-loss. Phinazee, Charles Turner-Cox, and Travis Clinch each had an interception.

Offensively Herstich was 17-for-32 passing for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His top target was Matthew Trevillian who caught seven passes for 90 yards and a score. Jaquan Ebron caught four balls for 62 yards, and a score. Lebron Fields rushed 21 times for 107 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams close out the season next Saturday at home against Union College. It will Senior Day and Missions Day at Mitchell Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
