The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has allocated a $750,000 grant to Friends of Southwest Virginia. This funding aims to evaluate the economic impacts of projects carried out by the organization. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith expressed his support for the initiative.

“This ARC grant for $750,000 helps Friends of Southwest Virginia hire a team of consultants to identify strengths in key projects and build a blueprint for future projects,” stated Griffith.

The funding comes from ARC’s Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative. This initiative focuses on directing federal resources toward economic diversification in Appalachian communities that have been affected by job losses in coal mining, coal power plant operations, and coal-related supply chain industries.

The project is known as the Southwest Virginia Creative Economy Assessment and Development Initiative.
