The U.S. House of Representatives has passed H.R. 29, known as the Laken Riley Act. This legislation aims to facilitate Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in detaining and bringing into custody illegal aliens who have committed crimes in the United States. Congressman Morgan Griffith of Virginia expressed his support for the bill with a statement.

"Laken Riley is more than just a name on a bill," Griffith stated, drawing a connection to a song by the Statler Brothers. He emphasized the personal significance of Laken Riley to her loved ones, highlighting that she was special to them and now remains only in their memories.

The Laken Riley Act must still be approved by the U.S. Senate before it can become law. In the previous Congress, similar legislation passed in the House but did not receive a vote in the Senate when it was under Democratic control.

The act is named after Laken Riley, who was tragically murdered on February 22, 2024. While jogging at the University of Georgia, she was killed by an illegal alien from Venezuela.
