U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has granted $30,000 to the Town of Honaker. This funding is intended for preliminary reports on proposed improvements to the town's water system. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) commented on the grant, stating:
"Rural communities, like many in Southwest Virginia, benefit from clean, potable water."
"This USDA Rural Development grant for $30,000 helps the Town of Honaker produce a report that explores adding a well and storage tank to the current town water system."
The grant is part of the USDA Rural Development Special Evaluation Assistance for Rural Communities and Households program. This initiative supports small, financially distressed rural communities with predevelopment feasibility studies and technical assistance for proposed water and waste disposal projects.
Honaker's existing water infrastructure consists of four wells, two storage tanks, and 96 linear feet of lines. The addition of another well and tank aims to enhance the availability of potable water for its residents.
