There were 830 students enrolled in Union Primary School in 2023-24 school year

Union Primary School had the highest enrollment among Wise County schools, welcoming 830 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed at the time, 50.1% of them were female, and 49.9% were male.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 89.3% of Union Primary School's total enrollment.

Among the 11 schools in Wise County, Central High School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 663 students, while Wise Primary School welcomed 616 students to be ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Union Primary School is part of Wise County Public Schools District, which roughly covers schools within Wise County, with its main office in Big Stone Gap.

In the previous school year, Union Primary School also had the highest number of students among Wise County schools.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
